The Director, Development is responsible for the overall strategic direction, management and assessment of the fundraising/giving programs (annual, major and planned) for the University of Regina. This includes development of fundraising plans outlining financial targets in order to advance the University of Regina's Strategic Plan while ensuring positive, successful donor interactions. The Director accomplishes this through research, design, development and implementation of programs that maximize the effectiveness of fundraising activities.

The position reports to the Associate Vice-President, External Relations and is a key member of the External Relations leadership team, collaborating closely with University senior leadership and University Executive to ensure the alignment and integration of fundraising strategies and programs with the University's mission and vision.

Specific Accountabilities

- Develop a comprehensive strategy to expand philanthropic and external support for the University of Regina in order to achieve annual goals and objectives.

- Foster a strong network of relationships with key individuals and organizations both outside of the University and within in order to secure financial support for University issues, initiatives and goals.

- Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive institutional advancement program that includes, but is not limited to, community relations, corporate and foundation giving, annual giving, capital campaigns, major gifts, planned giving, donor recognition and stewardship.

- Ensure the highest quality in fundraising communications and promotional materials, including proposals, applications, correspondence, reports, budgetary and program information, and monitoring.

- Manage the distribution of qualified prospects to major gifts officers and set and monitor performance metrics for all gifts officers.

- Supports the management of the President and Vice-Chancellor's major gift portfolio.

- Maintain own portfolio of major gifts' prospects through entire donor cycle of development and against set performance metrics.

- Recruit, manage, evaluate and train a team of professional fundraising staff to ensure the high quality of service relative to donor solicitation and recognition.

- Develop key goals for the Development team and ensure those goals are being met through utilization of appropriate fundraising methodology and procedures.

- A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline, preferably from the University of Regina.

- Experience at a senior level with a minimum 7 years of successful leadership with non-profit sectors and/or boards in a philanthropic environment with an emphasis on six-figure or larger major gifts and capital campaigns.  Preference for individuals with a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) or Advanced Certified Fundraising Executive (ACFRE) designation and for those with post-secondary advancement experience.

- Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with donor pipeline development, the major donor life cycle, and the principles and best practices of stewarding stakeholders.

- A record of developing and implementing strategic programs and outreach services that produce operational and institutional results and achievement of University and divisional objectives.

- Experience working with prospects and donors within both the philanthropic and business sector in the local, provincial and national markets.

- Excellent written and spoken communications skills sufficient for clearly discussing complex issues with and energizing diverse audiences, both in writing and in presentations.

- Familiarity with fundraising and financial software and systems.

- Ability to create and nurture long term relationships with influential community members, colleagues, faculty and alumni who can affect positive benefits to the goals of fund raising programs.

- Strong interpersonal skills (consultation, facilitation, communication, relationship building).

- Demonstrated ability to recruit, retain, engage, develop and manage staff to deliver results in a collaborative team focused on delivering results.

- Ability to make decisions and prioritize initiatives.

- Exercises good judgement, deals with issues in a balanced and fair manner and responds constructively to advice and criticism.

- Demonstrated track record of leading and building a professional team that achieves excellence in client satisfaction of quality work.

- Has a collaborative style that allows for appropriate consultation from stakeholders and respect for process.

- Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and experience with donor databases.
